Nike plans to drop yet another stunning Air Force 1 with the introduction of the Air Force 1 Low “Sashiko”. Recent months have seen Nike make a strong push with “Sashiko” models, including the Dunk Low & Air Jordan 4. Now, the Swoosh comes through with arguably the strongest of the series so far, with a beautifully composed model.
“Sashiko” refers to a hand-sewing technique originating in ancient Japan which specializes in running stitches to reinforce or decorate cloth. This results in geometric patterns that are held in high regard for their visual impact. The uppers of this model are covered in such patterns, using a range of Blue, Black & White threads. Distinct paneling separates the patterns from one another and pair strikingly with light accents around the laces, tongue & heel. Suede adorns the swoosh, eye stays and heel tab, while the tongue is also made from a white “Sashiko” fabric. Under a gold lace dubrae with AF-1 ’82 branding sits an embroidered gold swoosh, partnered by stitching on the heel. The heel stitching however is in Kanji script, which partners the translucent outsole in that it also features script. Flat white laces combine with white lining and a white midsole to wrap up this model.
