For years, the masses have been told that the Air Jordan 1 was the silhouette that his Airness wore in a black and red colorway that led to being eventually banned by the league. The “Banned” colorway and history is at the core of what Jordan Brand stands for in reaching new heights by whatever means. It wasn’t until this year, however, where the truth behind the “Banned” narrative was told in full by the brand.
The Nike Air Ship, not the Air Jordan 1, was the original banned model in its black and red colorway. At the beginning of 2020, Jordan Brand retroed the Air Ship and the Air Jordan 1 together during All-Star Weekend with its “New Beginnings” pack. Nearly half a year later, the OG returned.
The Nike Air Ship “Banned” released via a global raffle thanks to the Italian boutique Back-Door with a Europre-only release as winners will be contacted by August 7.
While there’s no official indication of the colorway releasing this year, official images have surfaced indicating that perhaps a wider release is imminent. Take a look at the pair below as we hope the pair arrives to SNKRS and retailers before the year ends.

The Nike Air Ship ‘Banned’ is the pair that Michael Jordan was wearing during the rooking training camp back in 1984 that received a letter from the NBA stating the shoes were ‘Banned’. In 1985, Nike released the Air Jordan 1 in Black and Red which received the ‘Banned’ nickname, however the true pair that was banned was the Air Ship.
Years later, we will finally see the return of this Nike Air Ship. Going over the pair it comes with Black leather across the base while Red lands on the eyelets, Swoosh logos, heel, Nike Air branding on the tongue and rubber outsole. White then lands on the midsole with more branding while ‘Air Jordan’ is placed on the heel.
